Be Simple. Be Novel. Be Bright. Be Gray, Beige, Brown, or White. Be You.
When I first conceived, and then composed, this style philosophy, it was meant to express a simple truth: there isn’t a right or wrong style. Interior styling should be about choosing individuality and embracing creative expression in your home — for you.
In design and decorating, people often ask, “What’s in trend?”
Is gray over? Is beige back? Are bold colors too risky? Is minimal better than layered?
The truth?
There isn’t one right way to do style. There is only successful execution of what appeals to your senses.
Be Simple.
Sometimes the most powerful rooms are the ones with less.
Clean lines. Intentional furniture. Minimal decor. Space to breathe.
Simplicity isn’t boring. Simple design allows the architecture to speak. It allows the few pieces within the room to make a powerful statement.
Be Novel.
Creativity is what keeps design alive.
Novel is thoughtful originality. A bold art choice. An unexpected fabric. A modern light fixture in an older home. Novel means that you incorporate your individuality within your space.
There are design “rules” for a reason:
Balance matters.
Scale matters.
Proportion matters.
Flow matters.
But sometimes, a room can technically follow every rule in the book and still fall flat. Why? Because creativity wasn’t invited in.
Decorating needs a little risk. A broken rule. It needs personality. Your personality.
Be Bright.
In this instance, bright is about color.
Have you always wanted to incorporate a color you love into your home? Maybe you just considered adding a splash of color. Maybe you dreamed of going “all in” on a color. Let’s do it! If color brings you peace, joy, or happiness, it has a place in the style and design of your home.
Be Gray, Beige, Brown, or White.
There are a lot of seemingly hard “rules” in design trends — especially around neutral palettes. Gray was “in.” Then it was “out.” Beige made a comeback. White is timeless. Brown is cozy. That will all change at some point. Here’s a little secret for you… I still love a nice gray interior. Honestly, there isn’t a neutral palette I can’t get behind, as long as it’s done well.
It’s about the execution. A neutral room done well, regardless of the tone, is beautiful.
You can follow every trend and still miss the mark. You can ignore trends entirely and create something stunning.
Be You.
Style is deeply personal. A home should reflect the people who live there.
Sometimes that means minimal and modern.
Sometimes it means layered and warm.
Sometimes it means safe and neutral.
Sometimes it means bold and unexpected.
I don’t believe in one “correct” aesthetic.
I believe in:
Embracing the space.
Understanding the goal.
Knowing the audience.
Executing the vision.
Authenticity is what makes design resonate.
Be simple.
Be novel.
Be bright.
Be gray, beige, brown, or white.
Be you.
